Daycare description / philosophy

Dragonflies and Dreams has been operating for over 11 years for infants, toddlers, Jr/Sr kindergarten, before and after school care for grade 1 and up. We walk or drive children to nearby school (St. Benedict or Leduc Estates) or to school bus pick up / drop off location. I provide toys and crafts and games for all ages for after school care and for full day care. We have a huge yard and are close to playgrounds and green spaces, nature paths and mini forests (Fred John's Park). I strongly believe children need physical activity everyday; be it a walk around the neighborhood, playgrounds, sledding, building snowmen, sports in the yard (weather permitting). We participate in children's yoga programs on YouTube and have plenty of physical activity On days where mother nature advises us to stay indoors, my basement is finished with climbing apparatus' for toddlers and preschoolers (Little Tykes slides, etc) or crafts and games will be provided. Homework help is available. Occasionally age appropriate movies and educational programs will be shown. We participate in children's yoga programs on YouTube and have plenty of physical activity even if we stay indoors. Qualifications: I have a degree in Child and Youth Care from MacEwan University. I worked as a preschool teacher for the City of Leduc, ran summer camps for ages 6-12 years, facilitated groups for pre teens and teens, babysat and interacted with children ages birth to 18 years for 20 years. I have first-aid, Food Preparation certificate, security clearance, child welfare check clearance, Discipline with Compassion Certificate, Childhood Anger and Temper Management Certificate. I transport to school, library, and field trips in and around Leduc, Devon, and Edmonton. During the summer we may partake in longer excursions such as Red Deer Discovery and Wetaskiwin museum. Infants sleep in the spare room upstairs (we usually do the listen for crying when they wake or you could provide a baby monitor). I prefer infants nap in the afternoon after lunch and school runs. I provide morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack. During the summer, we serve breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack (we eat breakfast later during the summer so we sub a breakfast for morning snack)and we go for lots of treat trips as well (ice cream, slurpees, etc). Currently our typical school schedule: Morning greet and breakfast School run (820-900) Morning activity and free play (yoga, craft, games, puzzles, stories) Lunch school run (1045-1230): we walk to the school, play on the snowhill, sled, play in park, adventures, etc. Lunch Afternoon activity/nap time (outside play, games, free play, walks, craft, etc) School kids come home Snack Free play Home time. Our summer and holiday schedule is pretty unstructured. Sometimes we plan and sometimes we fly by the seat of our pants. We use a positive and negative consequences form of discipline. Lots of praise, sometimes treats, lots of hugs and love and positive reinforcement, timeouts either on the stairs or in the corner depending on age with a lot of discussion about the incident including talking about feelings and others' feelings and, importantly, what choices we can make next time. Be sorry and be better! Rates: Full time (5 days/week): $750.00/mth Drop-in Day Rate: $45.00 Under 4 hours: $35.00 Before/After School Care: $15.00/day PD/Holidays $45.00/day I currently do not provide a part time rate but charge $45/day.
