Daycare description / philosophy
*** PERMANENTLY CLOSED ***
Providing a similar fun, learning environment children would experience in a Pre-school setting WITHOUT THE ADDED COST.
I aim to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children to grow and learn through play, that encourages and motivates on all levels; cognitively, physically, socially and emotionally to help develop independence, and self worth. To play, experiment, explore and discover, with the guidance and support of a dedicated care provider.
I will encourage opportunities which allow children to feel empowered by giving them the option to make their own positive choices. I have implemented Special Helper Days and a Caught You Caring program.
Special Helper: Changes the calendar and weather board, picks a song and game for circle time, chooses the book for story time. The new special helper may choose to bring a favorite book from home to read at story time.
Caught you caring (CYC): Children are rewarded for doing something kind for someone, helping without being asked, using manners a whole day without reminders and anything else I see that deserves reward. Each time they earn a CYC they get a star beside their name, the one with the most stars by friday gets to pick the movie for Movie Day friday.
Children will gain awareness of health and safety, the concept of sharing, taking turns, cooperation, and socially acceptable behaviour. these concepts will be learned through peer modelling, gentle guidance, teachable moments, picture symbols and books etc.
Manners and Gratitude: Yes please, thank you, your welcome, no thank you, excuse me, and complimenting.
Etiquette: First one to the door opens it for everyone, no toys or electronics will be allowed at the table while eating. We wait for everyone to be done eating before we leave the table (except to wash our hands). Children are encouraged to give hugs when saying hello and goodbye, but a child should never be forced. We also practice handshakes, high fives and waving. This will promote social skills and enhance interaction with one's peers.
Daily schedule Includes:
-Free Play: Freedom of choice, big toy bins, sharing and socializing
-Circle Time: Attendance, calendar, weather, streching, gross motor movement, songs, and group discussion
-Group Play: Role play, dress up, games
-Outdoor Play: Secured backyard, Park nearby, free play, exploration walks, gardening, and sledding
-Story Time: Books, puppets, and felt boards
-Quiet Time: Napping, soft music, quiet bins, books, colouring, and puzzles
-Arts and Crafts: Self expression; drawing, painting, learning to follow direction; experimenting, paper mache, creative corner, baking and decorating, and much more.
-Movie Day Friday: 1 movie in the afternoon to wind down from a week filled with fun and learning just before home time.
-Fun Days (occasional): Hat day, face paints, wearing the colors we learn, birthdays and seasonal parties, etc.
I offer a Ages and Stages program for ages 3 to 5 to help enhance a child's learning potential. If parents/Guardians are interested in this you are welcome to take home a questionnaire to fill out about your child’s development. Once completed, return it to me so I can get a better idea of where your child's development stages are. This will help me get to know your child's strengths and aid in working on activities in areas which they require more support. Whether it be in communication, physical abilities, social skills or problem solving. Every 3-6 months we can revisit the questionnaire and see the progress your child has made, and if they require additional help in any other areas as they grow. It is a positive and fun way to track your little ones growth and progress. Each and every child is unique and has their strengths, no two children are alike. All questionnaires will remain confidential and in the child's file.
Please note this is an unlicensed day home and don't let this deter you. I still follow the Government of Alberta's Family DayHome Standards. Your Child is my #1 priority, I will give them the same quality of care I would expect my own children to be given. 100% Nothing Less.Daycare Features
