My child's daycare is closing it's doors in August because of underfunding and impacts from full-day kindergarten. And without funding in this year’s provincial budget, hundreds of more child care centres will close.

I will be honest I had no idea what was happening with our child care system and took everything for granted as this daycare has been in our community for 35 years! My fear is not finding a good quality daycare and at an affordable rate. *IF* I do I might be in the same situation again if they close within the year. It cannot be good for any child to keep uprooting them.

Hi. I am a parent of 3 children and also an ECE/Special Needs Consultant. I am currently home with them and providing home child care to others.

When I looked into care for my 3 boys, then aged 7,3, and almost 1, it was going to be approx. $2000 a month to get care for them. And forget finding a group centre in my 2 son's school area! There were NONE! I even called the Children's Services licensing specialist for this area directly. No chances of a centre opening up either, private or city based.

I could go on the long wait list for subsidy and I might qualify for some assitance, some time in the future. But my only option for subsidized care would be home care and it would be unlikely I'd get all 3 boys with one provider.

Being in the profession, I knew it would be tough finding care. But not this tough! So, now I am home with them instead. I can use my skills and education to care for others and my own children.
