Title: Portable cribs recalled
Post by: CareDC on July 08, 2009, 06:13:32 PM
Sesame Street, Care Bear and Jeep play yards are among the brands of newly recalled portable cribs as Canadian families grapple with the fourth such recall this year.

Kolcraft Enterprises Inc. of Chicago confirmed that the recall, announced jointly by the firm and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Wednesday, extends to Canada.

About one million play yards, sold under the Kolcraft Travelin' Tot brand and other similar play yards manufactured for Carter's, Sesame Street, Care Bear, Jeep, Contours and Eric Carle are being recalled in the United States due to a fall hazard.

The play yard's side rail can fail to latch properly and it can unexpectedly unlatch when a child pushes against the rail. The U.S. commission said Kolcraft has received 347 reports of problems, resulting in 21 injuries to young children, including one concussion.

In total, play yards with 106 different model numbers are being recalled in North America. Some units include a bassinet or a change table, and some models have a mobile, vibrating unit or a parent organizer.
