Starting a daycare / Confusion Over Rates
« Last post by Tegan on September 14, 2017, 11:00:46 AM »
Hi y'all.
I googled standard childcare rates in Canada and it said it was $14/hr. But most sites like this say people are charging, like $30 a day.  I'm so confused - why so little? That's like $3/hr.  To watch one kid at a time, for example, it wouldn't even be worth it.  I'm not trying to be devil's advocate here, I am actually confused.  If a parent's time at a job is worth whatever their pay is (Say $15/hr) why is my time watching their kids only worth $3/hr?  How does that make sense?  I ask because I am planning on only taking on one child - someone I know desperately needs a childcare provider and I have always wanted to do it. I figure I'll start with one and see how it goes. But when I found out people think $30 or less for a full 8 hours is reasonable I sort of panicked.  That's not even minimum wage. That's not even half minimum wage.  I love kids. I'd do it for free just for fun. But my hubby wants me to get a job soon and bring home the $$$.  How come people do this job if every hour of their day is tied up and it doesn't pay?  I'm not trying to be a jerk, I just don't understand what the reasoning is or why people are okay with it. It's full time job - no doubt one of the most important jobs in history...but ....we're not supposed to get paid as much as ....any other job, anywhere?

Hi!
I'm Looking for Child Care for my Toddler in the Ottawa, On Area. Preferably in the East End Near Vanier, but not Down Town. I'm also looking for places that can accept early (and I mean early) drop offs as my work needs me to be there for 6:30am on occasion. Please let me know if any of you know of anything. Thank You!!

Canadian Child care / daycare news / Rural Alberta childcare warburg
« Last post by SaraGi on May 27, 2017, 03:56:06 PM »
Hi, my name is Sara. I am currently a full time mother. I am thinking about opening a day home in Warburg Alberta beginning January 2018.  However, I wanted to get an idea for the demand before I commit to this plan. The day home would be located on an acreage 3 miles from the town of Warburg.
I have a graduate degree in social work, 8 years of experience working with children, first aid, and am a certified level 3 childcare worker with the government of Alberta. If you think that there is a need for this service in Warburg please reply to this post.

Health / Microwave ovens + baby milk = unsafe? HELP!!!
« Last post by laurarna87 on February 17, 2017, 02:04:55 PM »
Hello moms! My name is Laura Randall. I'm the mom of a little handsome man. I am currently writing my Master's Thesis about the use of microwave ovens for heating breast-milk, formula and porridge. I am trying to research on the current habits of heating baby-milk and, specifically, I want to know if microwave ovens are actually being used for this purpose. Many people doesn't want to admit that they use microwave to heat their babies' food/milk, as it isn't socially accepted (because we do not really know if microwaves are harmful), so I have developed a very short anonymous survey (it takes less than 30 seconds to answer), to get the real thoughts of parents. This is just a small part of my research, as I intend to analyze the effect of microwaves in baby-food at a molecular structure, but I need to get a realistic estimation of the usage of microwaves when heating baby food. It would be really helpful if you could answer it and/or share it with other mothers. Thank you very much in advance. Here is the link:
