Some child-care advocates are calling for unlicensed day homes to be regulated after a private babysitter in Calgary was charged in a sexual assault case.

David Watkins, 66, was charged on Thursday with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual interference involving two girls under 13. The alleged victims were being taken care of at Watkins' northwest home where he and his wife ran a child-care service.

Day homes, which are allowed to care for up to six children, are not regulated by the province.
