Minimum wage falls short for Toronto families: Report
« on: November 18, 2008, 04:01:41 PM »
Ontario's minimum wage falls far short of what families need to earn to maintain a decent standard of living in Canada's most expensive urban area, according to a study by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives.

The study, A Living Wage for Toronto, estimates two parents raising two children would each have to earn $16.60 per hour, working full time and year-round to live adequately within the Greater Toronto Area.

The study examined the major costs facing families raising children in the Toronto area. Researchers also held focus groups with families to reflect the realities of everyday living, said co-author Jim Stanford.
