Investigation of needles found in meat continues
« on: March 20, 2009, 05:45:32 PM »
Toronto -- Guelph police and Canada's Food Inspection Agency are investigating after a number of small sewing needles were found in packages of hot dogs and children's deli lunches at a grocery store this week.

Staff at a No Frills at 191 Silvercreek Parkway in Guelph, Ont., found seven needles earlier this week. All the similar types of products were taken off the shelf, investigated, and four more needles were found. The affected products are all Schneiders lunch packs and hot dogs. No tampered packages have been found at other stores.

Police are investigating after seven sewing needles were discovered inside a variety of Schneider's meat products on the shelves of a Guelph, Ont. grocery store.

A woman Tuesday returned a Schneiders Lunchmate Stacker to No Frills grocery store on Silvercreek Parkway after finding a needle inside the package, which is largely aimed at schoolchildren.

Woman charged with putting needles in meat packages is former employee: Maple Leaf

Maple Leaf Foods says a woman charged with allegedly inserting 13 sewing needles into packages of meat products was a former company employee.

Last week, police began investigating reports that several products at a Guelph supermarket had been tampered with and had sewing needles inside. In all, 12 packaged products containing 13 needles were found.

On Thursday, Guelph police arrested Mastoora Qezil, 41, and charged her with common nuisance.

In a statement released today, Maple Leaf says the woman worked at the company's Guelph plant for seven years and was terminated earlier this month.
