Trade in your old child safety equipment at Toys R Us
« on: May 28, 2010, 08:05:35 PM »
Here's your chance to ensure your child's cribs, car seats, strollers and other equipment are safe.
From May 28 to June 11, Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores in Toronto and across Canada, in partnership with Health Canada and Safe Kids Canada, host the Great Trade-In, which invites Canadians to turn in their used cribs, strollers, car seats and travel systems in exchange for 20 per cent savings on a new product from the same product categories.

The program is designed to ensure children are protected from equipment that may be damaged, old or subject of recalls.

According to safety experts, consumers should be cautious when purchasing or receiving second-hand children's items as they may be unsafe or not meet today's more stringent safety standards. Health Canada also said people may not be aware their crib, stroller, car seat or travel system has been subject to a recall or advisory, potentially leaving dangerous products in the home.

"As a company, Toys R Us is committed to the safety of the children and families it serves," said Kevin Macnab, president of Toys R Us Canada in a release. "Through the Great Trade-In, we hope to raise awareness of the importance of product safety and encourage parents to return old merchandise as a way to significantly reduce the number of potentially harmful products in circulation."
