All About Me
My name is Lisa I am a 32 years old, married to my Husband Gary of 10 years, a mother of 4 children my oldest son is 8, my next son is 6, my third son is 4 and my daughter is 2 years. We also have 3 cats that are in the home and around the children. I am ECE certified with first aid and CPR. I have been caring for children for almost 20 years as a babysitter, nanny, in a daycare centre and currently out of my home for almost 8 years. Outside the home I am a Beaver leader with my sons pack and growing up I was in Guiding as well as a leader for many years prior to having children.
Our home is set up with children as the main focus. We live in a bungalow that is fairly open concept. We have toys on each level for all ages. The basement is the main play area with a large playroom sectioned off with toys, games, books, puzzles, a lounge area and a work station for crafts and learning. Our house is fully monitored by ADT Alarm system for all doors, windows, fire and Carbon Monoxide. We also have special child locks at the tops of the doors to ensure that the small ones learning to open doors cannot do so.
My home daycare is run as a preschool/nursery school atmosphere. I have designed a program so that based on the children's ages and abilities so that everyone is having hands on fun and learning at the same time. The program is done with weekly themes, the children's interests, abilities and learning skills that all children need to learn. This is done through songs, books, crafts, experiments, cooking and outdoor adventure. They focus on letters, number, colours, shapes, fine and gross motor, as well as learning to share and be a friend. The children learn through guided hands on experiences as well as play based learning. For the older children I also have program time when the younger children are sleeping that focuses more on skills to prepare them for the start of school.
Each month I send a calendar and newsletter home about what will be happening in the next month. It gives you a glance at the activities we will be doing. It also shows any important days or anything the children will need to bring in for certain days. I like to have fun days with them for example we had a teddy bears picnic and everyone brought in their teddy bear. Or we celebrate birthday's and holidays so the children are welcome to bring in treats to share. Or theme days like crazy hair/hat day. It keeps you informed or your child's time here and gives me a chance to reflect on what we have done since little ones cannot always tell you what we have done this gives you a chance to see before hand.
Each day we have an opening circle time where we do calendar, weather, sing songs and stories about the weeks theme. The older children have the opportunity to be a role model by being the helper of the day and put the number on the calendar and tell us the weather. The children enjoy being front and centre and look forward to their chance.
We spend a lot of time outdoors (especially in the spring/summer), depending on the weather I will take the programming outside so that the children get more time outside but also get to complete what we had planned for the day. In the summer most of the day is spent outside and we have "summer Camp"Â instead of programming. It just breaks things up for the children and is the activities are more physical and fun (but they still learn things we just do not call it school time!) Each week is a theme and we have games, crafts, and fun activities based on the theme.Daycare Features
