Daycare description / philosophy
Mission Statement
The Children’s Universe family of childcare centres exists to provide a safe, developmentally appropriate environment for infants, toddlers, preschool, kinder and school age children. Our focus is to provide a stimulating early care and educational experiences, which promote each child’s social/emotional, physical and cognitive development. Our goal is to support children’s desire to be life-long learners.
Philosophy
The Staff of Children’s Universe Families believe that every child deserves a safe, warm and caring environment (a place where children want to be), in which to grow and develop to their maximum potential. We are committed to fostering each child’s self-esteem and feeling of self-worth and value through positive care giving and stimulating activities that will promote their emotional, physical, social and intellectual growth and development.
Every child is entitled to be given the opportunity to develop personal responsibility and social skills, to learn to problem – solve and to learn about other races and cultures. Each child is recognized as a unique individual who brings his or her own gifts to the program and deserves to be given the encouragement and space to try new things, explore new ideas, and develop their own unique creativity.
The Children’s Universe family’s philosophy and program statement is in alignment with the Ministry of Education’s CCEYA “How Does Learning Happenâ€. We utilize the “How Does Learning Happen?†Document, the Minister’s Policy Statement, CCEYA licensing requirements and health and safety guidelines as the cornerstones and building blocks of our programs to ensure high quality programs are offered for all children and their families.
Program Statement
The Children’s Universe family programs promote health by providing meal planning based on Canada’s Food Guide, which is posted in the center. We are promoting personal care and a healthy lifestyle through program planning and daily routines. We plan daily outdoor activities in our playgrounds or in our community (walks, parades, etc.). We are also filling in the daily health logs for each child.
Safety is of the upmost importance in our programs, we ensure proper maintenance of indoor and outdoor environments to Ministry guidelines. For children, safety measures staff are using are attendances, and headcounts that are done frequently throughout the day. We promote center safety by having doors locked during daycare hours with visitors being required to ring the door bell, where they will be greeted at the door by a staff member and ID’d upon entrance. Doors are locked during operating hours, however parents may obtain entrance by utilizing our key code throughout the day.
Wellbeing in our program is promoted by creating a positive, warm, caring environment where children feel safe and secure. Each center implements programs that support the children’s growth, and teaches them positive values in the 5 domains: social, emotional, cognitive, language and physical. Our programs foster each child’s sense of self-worth by setting them up to succeed to achieve their goals. Educators care for children using a positive, loving, nonjudgmental tone, that encourages those around them to treat themselves and other children with love, support and respect.
Educators support positive and responsive interactions among the children, parents and fellow childcare providers. We are competent and capable, curious, and rich in experience. We are knowledgeable, caring, reactive, and resourceful professionals who continually seek out opportunities for professional learning and development. We bring diverse social, cultural, and linguistic perspectives. We collaborate with others to create engaging environments and experiences to foster children’s learning and development. We welcome the opportunity of having support staff such as College Students, High School Students, CISS, OCTC, CAS, Ottawa Public Health, First Words, Volunteers or others who interact with children in relation to continuous professional learning. All of these support staff enhance our ratios and at no time will be unsupervised with the children in the Centre.Daycare Features
