Daycare description / philosophy
Our names are Jesse and Melanie Deslauriers, we are the loving parents of two wonderful boys, Weslee, 23 months and Kayden 4 years. We love spending time with our kids and have therefore decided to open a family run home daycare. Previous experience includes multiple summers of full time babysitting, 3 years of home daycare as well as the experience gained by being a parents. I, Melanie, have a bachelor's degree in sociology and am fluent in both French and English. I will therefore be speaking in both languages but mainly in English. We have also completed the First Aid and CPR course administered by Red Cross. We also have a up to date criminal police check.
Our goal is to provide your child with a safe environment where he/she can thrive and have the freedom to play and interact with other children his/her age. We believe that each child is unique and special in his/her on way. Being able to share the responsibility will ensure that each child receives the attention and encouragement that he/she deserves, where they will strive and grow to be a happy and caring individual.
The children have access to a large playroom equipped with a variety of fun and educational toys. They will be spending most of their time in it. We are constantly rotating and acquiring toys to keep things new and exciting. The children will also have access to our backyard equipped with a sandbox and outdoor toys. We also have a quiet room in the basement reserved for sleeping and watching the occasional movie. Television will only be used for down time. There are also multiple parks in the vicinity including one directly across the street.
Toys are suitable for infants and toddlers alike and are fun for both girls and boys. I strongly believe in teaching children how to respect and treat their and others' property by showing them how to properly handle toys and by encouraging them to be gentle.
Melanie loves to cook and to try new recipes. Lunch for the children will typically be left overs from our supper the night before.(Different meats, vegetables and sides) I will on occasion serve hot dogs and Kraft dinner, etc, but these are considered rare treats. Snacks range from fruit, crackers and cheese to cheerios, etc. Snacks are also based on the child's needs. For example, my older son will not eat supper if he has had a large snack before hand. I therefore limit the amount he eats so that it will not affect his supper.
We believe that parents should have an active role and be aware of how their child's day was spent. We therefore provide each parent with a daily journal where we tell them a bit about their child's day including, nap, lunch, activities and new developments. We also use the journal for communicating changes and other important information regarding daycare.
