Daycare description / philosophy

Welcome to Shannon's Learning Jungle! A brand new home daycare located in the Kanata/Stittsville area. My love of children has led me to a profession in childcare. I graduated with honours from the Early Childhood Education program at Algonquin College. I was a full-time Preschool Teacher at a licensed daycare centre for 6 years where I then became Head Teacher. I have over 11 years experience with all age groups. I am certified in CPR and First Aid and a member of the Child Care Providers Resource Network. I have taken many workshops including sign language, behaviour guidance, autism awareness, and sensory integration.

I am a mother of 11 month old twins. As my maternity leave comes to an end I have decided to use my childcare knowledge and skills and open a daycare in my home. The basement of our home is dedicated to my daycare. We live in a smoke-free home with a fenced-in backyard. We are around the corner from parks and a splash pad.

The children in my care will benefit from age-appropriate activities both indoors and outdoors. Children learn through play and they will do so in a fun and relaxed environment. I provide nutritionally balanced snacks and lunch and hope to incorporate some of your child's favourites.

I believe communication is very important between parents and caregivers. I will provide each child with a communication book that I will write their daily activities, meals, naps, etc. and send it home each day. Parents are encouraged to write in these books as well. Annual income tax receipts will be provided.
