Daycare description / philosophy

I am an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) who graduated from the Sheridan College program in 2002. Trained in child CPR, I have worked in day care centres as well as worked for the City of Mississauga. Letters of recommendation from previous parents are available upon individual request.

Marta's Mini's is open year round from 7:30am - 5:30pm. If your child is required to stay longer than the hours provided due to personal circumstances, this will be determined by the director and parent/guardian of the child.


Play based learning and weekly themes

Marta's Mini's is a play based learning centre. Play based learning is the way young children explore and make sense of their world. Through this type of learning, children develop self confidence, a positive self-image, social and language skills, curiosity, and concentration.

Together with our play based learning, we have weekly themes based on the time of year and children’s interests. Through daily activities such as creative arts, circle, sensory, cognitive and indoor/outdoor play, the children will learn social, emotional and language skills that can be applied to their daily lives.


Daily Activities

During circle time, the children use a calendar to learn the days of the week, months of the year and numerical counting. The days of the week are also taught in French to aid your child in learning another language. The Jolly Phonics is used during circle time to allow your child to recognize phonetic sounds and to prepare them to begin to read.

During indoor and outdoor play, the children use important skills such as creativity, sensory, gross/fine motor skills, and cognitive skills. These skills aid in brain development and allow your child to grow physically, emotionally and mentally.

Marta's Mini's strives to encourage your children to learn the essential element of potty training which enhances their independence and self confidence. Each child's needs are assessed on an individual basis to ensure that their goals are met.

Nap time occurs from 12:30pm - 2:45pm where each child rests on their individual cot with clean sheets that are washed on a weekly basis. During nap time, children are encouraged to bring their personal sleep toys and blankets for comfort.


Meals

Here at Marta's Mini's, we believe in the importance of healthy eating in order to have a healthy mind and body to conquer the day of learning. We do not offer processed foods. Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter menus are utilized and rotated every 4 weeks to ensure that your child receives a variety of healthy foods.

Marta's Mini's provides morning and afternoon snack. Afternoon snack always includes fruit. Lunch is provided on site and includes 4 - 5 of Canada's healthy food groups. If your child has dietary restrictions due to allergies/culture, please inform the director so that alternate foods can be provided.
