Daycare description / philosophy

"HOOT WANTS TO LEARN" Is More Than Child Care - It is about building strong foundations for school I am an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) and a former Registered Early Childhood Educator with over ten years of experience working with young children, supported by a strong educational background in Early Childhood Education and Child Studies and Education. I also hold TEFL certification and bring specialized knowledge and strategies for supporting children learning English as a second or additional language. My approach helps children build confidence in speaking, listening, vocabulary, early reading, and communication through meaningful, everyday learning experiences. Why is it more than a home child care program? While children enjoy a warm, caring, play-based environment, we strongly focus on developing the academic, language, social, and problem-solving skills they need to enter school with confidence. Learning experiences are thoughtfully designed for children approximately 2.5-5 years old, with particular emphasis on school readiness and preparation for Kindergarten and Grade 1. During the day, children will be introduced to: Early literacy - phonics, letter sounds, vocabulary, reading readiness and early writing Early mathematics numbers, counting, patterns, measurement, shapes and problem-solving STEM learning - hands-on science, building, experimenting, exploring and simple engineering challenges English language development, including additional support for multilingual learners Fine-motor and pre-writing skills Arts and crafts Story time and interactive read-alouds Outdoor exploration and physical activity Yoga, dance and music Social-emotional skills, independence and classroom routines Child-led activities based on children's interests and curiosity My goal is to provide a small, nurturing learning environment where children receive individualized attention while developing a strong academic foundation and a genuine love of learning.
