Daycare description / philosophy

Hello Parents! Welcome to Sunnyside Orléans Daycare, Sunnyside is a home away from home environment, where your little one will be able to grow, learn, and develop. Our focus is play-based learning, which will allow your child to explore, discover, be creative and build positive relationships with multi-aged friends. OUR DAILY ACTIVITIES: We use weekly themes that promote additional learning and fun adventures in our everyday learning. Circle Time: Our learning is interactive and supported through seeing, speaking and moving. We dance, read, sing, learn letters, count numbers, puppets/ finger plays, felt stories and much more. CREATIVE AND LEARNING CENTERS: These centers are open for discovery and exploration throughout the day. The centers change daily or weekly, in order to go with our theme of the week. Music and Movement Area: Your child will experience music patterns, melodies and enhance their motor skills. Block and Building Area: Your little one will learn how to construct, balance, and build while developing beautiful structures. Dramatic play Area: This is where your child will be involved in the world of pretend, role playing, family and community. Your child will take on various roles such as daddy, mommy, cashier, shopper, baby, princess, super hero. Art and writing Area: In the Art Centre your child will enjoy art easel area, drawing, painting, coloring, arts and craft projects. Our focus is to let your little one explore materials such as paint, glue in their own way. We learn how to mix colours, texture and design. Library Area: Your child will discover a variety of books in our book display which includes nonfiction, fiction, children’s magazines, and cardboard display for infants/toddlers. Felt board is available for your child to explore and to retell stories. Math and manipulative Area: Your child will experience hands on activities such as lacing, beading, counters and games; while learning all about numbers, problem solving, rote counting and patterning. Sensory Area: Your child will discover and experiment using their five senses: sight, touching, smelling, hearing and tasting. Dramatic play Table Area: Your little one will have fun role playing with cars, farm animals, little people, safari animals, trucks etc. Science and Discovery Area: Science is about children experimenting and exploring the world around them. Our science Centre allows your child to experiment on their own with various activities. Language and Literacy: Your child will discover the alphabet by bringing letters to life through hands on activities that will allow them to see, hear, touch, and play. OUTDOOR PLAY: At Sunnyside, we value outdoor play and the importance of physical activity and fresh air. We will be outside for a period of time in the morning and again in the afternoon, depending upon the weather. In the warmer months, your little one will participate in age appropriate activities such as swinging, climbing, sliding, riding trikes, sidewalk chalk, playhouse, sandbox, water table, sprinkler etc. In the colder months, we play in the snow, build snowmen, snow angels, create snow art, make snow forts, winter walk etc. We also go on neighborhood walks, splash pads, and parks. NUTRITIOUS MEALS: We provide your child with a hot, healthy, nutritious home-cooked breakfast, lunch along with a morning and afternoon snack. Each meal is prepared and cooked daily. The menu is based on the Canadian Food Guide. Snacks, breakfast and lunch will include milk and water. Our meals include a variety of fruits and vegetables. PARENT COMMUNICATION: We strive to build a connection between home and daycare by communicating with a parent information email. You will find our menu, important notices for parents and what the children have engaged in throughout the day. A daily report summarizing your child's day will be sent via email for you discuss with your child each night. We have a fully fenced back yard. We are within walking distance to parks, splash pads, play groups and library. Close by Fallingbrook Elementary and St. Francis of Assisi School.
