Daycare description / philosophy
Hi there!
My name is Emily and I operate a home based daycare on Olive Avenue called "Small Hands daycare". I know from experience how difficult it can be to find a daycare provider who suits the needs of both yourself and your child. I hope that when you read what my daycare has to offer that you feel that I will be that perfect match for your family.
My daycare is structured with a fun and educational routine. Every day we:
-Have circle time which includes a weekly theme discussion, calendar and weather discussion, song and dance, and story time.
-Have sensory (sand, play dough, pasta, water), cognitive (puzzles, shape sorting, stacking, counting and number activities) or dramatic play times (puppet shows, plays, dress-up, kid-friendly cooking). Some times all three!
-Go outside (in the fenced-in backyard, for a walk, or to one of three local parks within walking distance).
-Make crafts.
-Have a nap or a quiet time.
-Enjoy home cooked lunches and healthy snacks. (Virtually nothing is prepacked).
Every month :
-We go on field trips to places such as Pingles farm, swimming, the zoo, Creative Play, Air Zone, the library, the dentist office, the post office, etc (depending on the theme). We also frequent other play groups so that your child is able to interact with different children on an ongoing basis.
-I change the dramatic play area and rotate the toys so that your child is never bored with the daycare surroundings.
Features of the day care include:
-Tax receipts so you can claim your child care expenses at the end of the year.
-Daily journal of your child's activities.
-Calendar of events each month highlighting field trips, themes, movie of the week, and special events.
-A fenced-in backyard
-An entire room dedicated to the daycare.
-Central air so your child is never uncomfortable.
-Vegetarian meal options available.
-We receive a shipment of fresh, local, organic produce each week that your children will enjoy as part of their lunches and snacks.
-Eco friendly daycare : We don't use harsh chemicals here. We use natural cleaners and hand made soaps to reduce the chemicals around the little ones.
-I am bilingual in English and French with my certificate of bilingualism from the durham board. Perfect for home work help!
A little about myself:
I am married and we have a terrific son who will be 3 years old next month. My job before this was as a hiring manager for Tim Hortons for 5 years. It was my job to hire and train the staff. I loved my job but I wanted to be home with my son. I have a tremendous amount of passion for children and for teaching others. I have over 3 years experience as a Sunday school teacher and lesson co-ordinator in addition to the year of experience as a home daycare provider. I have my CPR, First Aid, and food safety certificates. I have lots of references from parents whose children I've watched. Thank you for reading this far (lol) and please don't hesitate to call or email me with further questions.
Sincerely,
Emily Cassel-Smith
