Daycare description / philosophy
My name is Kendra Britt and I am the operator of Tiny Tikes daycare. I am a Child and Youth Worker and have 16 + years of working with children. Throughout my career I worked at Family and Children’s Services for 14 years where I worked with children aged 2-18. I have 5 years’ experience working at KidsLink and have worked at both the Public and Catholic local school boards on and off since 2012. I am trained in first aid and CPR and have a current criminal reference check.
My husband, Sean, and I have 2 wonderful children ages 2 and 8 months. They are my greatest loves. I love watching them grow and develop into pretty cool little people. Because of that, I have made the decision to stay home with them rather than return to work at the Waterloo Region District School Board. Furthermore, I have made the decision to open up our home to more cool little people as I can’t picture myself doing anything else in this world. Working with children to help them achieve their best has been my life for as long as I can remember and I look forward to continuing this passion in this new and exciting environment.
At Tiny Tikes, I plan to incorporate my educational background and wealth of experience which includes time spent in the new full day/play-based kindergarten, to create learning opportunities for our children. I uphold this environment allowing the children to explore various learning centres such as arts and crafts, dramatic play, sensory, dress-up, reading and building. In addition to centres, I offer structured activities for the older children focusing on learning numbers, the alphabet, dressing independently, learning the days/months of the week, proper hygiene etc. My goal is to have an environment that encourages children to practise pro-social skills, and to treat each other with kindness and respect.
I am a firm believer in keeping our children active and have dedicated 1 hour daily to playing outside and enjoying nature. I have a fenced in yard with a variety of outdoor riding toys, climbing structures and play areas. There are also several nearby pars within walking distance that we take advantage of whenever possible. On days when it is too cold (-15), or raining or we are under an extreme heat advisory, we will participate in indoor physical activities such as yoga, Simon says and various other active games.
Working in kindergarten, you learn to love dressing up! And the sillier themes you can celebrate the better! We will always have fun celebrations on holidays and birthdays and will throw in some fun theme days along the way. Who doesn’t love a crazy hair day or silly sock day! I will make sure to post reminders on the noticeboard as well as send home flyers to parents about any upcoming theme days so all children have the chance to participate and don’t feel left out.
These are your children that I am looking after. As such I am open to working with your children on anything specific that you may request. Please ask me any questions/concerns. I look forward to having a positive professional relationship with you. Thank you for trusting me to look after your children. My goal is to make sure both parent and child have a positive experience at Tiny Tikes.
