Daycare description / philosophy

Allow me to introduce you to Huggie Bears Private Home Daycare. As a mother of three, I know the difficulties associated with trying to find suitable child care options for your child. Finding one that will allow you to feel secure in your decision to return to work, knowing your child is safe, happy & well cared for in your absence is one of the most stressful tasks we have as a parent!

My name is Shirley Richards, I am the proud mother of three young adults. After the birth of my second child, I made the choice not to return to work within the medical field opting to become a stay at home mom. Hence, my home daycare was born.
I take pride in managing my home daycare with the same strict guide lines the Ministry of Children & Youth Services enforces with the Day Nurseries Act within all traditional daycare centre but allows parents the flexibility of a home daycare.

I provide quality, reliable and affordable childcare within a safe, happy, stimulating, & loving environment where children enjoy a variety of activities where 'Learning through play is encouraged and self-confidence is gained' Thus, allowing a parent to feel confident and at ease with their decision to return to the workforce.

Activities include Arts & Crafts, Stories, Puzzles & Games, Music & Sing-a-longs, Outdoor playtime, Imaginative play, Theme days, Pet Days, Show & Tell. Our day begins with Circle Time where we discuss the days of the week, the months of the year and the weather for the day.

Educational areas of focus include language development, math, science, fine & gross motor skills. I introduce and teach the children their colours, shapes, letters, sounds, words, stories and songs, while following a preschool curriculum to better prepare your little ones for kindergarten. Children learn how to share while playing together. All activities, toys, stories are age appropriate.
There are several parks and playgrounds, all within a short walking distance. Weather permitting the children and I are outside for a minimum of two hours daily.
Hot nutritious home made meals(breakfast & lunch) as well as snacks are provided throughout the day. All the children eat together where they are taught and learn their table manners.
The entire lower level of my home is a childproofed daycare area. The Weekly Menu plans along with the Monthly Activity schedules are posted for parents to review; all comments as well as suggestions are always welcomed.
There is a large playroom, and kitchen/dining area. Convenient access to the large fenced backyard for outdoor play is right off the dining area. Each child has their own 'cubbie' for their belongings. I also provide playpens/cots for sleeping for your convenience.
I am conveniently located near major Hwys. 401, 409, 427 & 27, a 2 minute drive from the GO Station (Etobicoke North) . I am on several main bus routes (Kipling 45, Dixon/Malton 58, Islington 37) Bus connections to Wilson 96 and the Bloor subway line.
My smoke free home is within walking distance to Transfiguration Roman Catholic School, St. Maurice R.C. School as well as Kingsview Village Public School.
I am certified in both Adult & Child CPR (Canadian Red Cross) as well as First Aid (St. John's Ambulance).
