Daycare description / philosophy

Little Munkees Dayhome is located on a quiet cul-de-sac in Huntington Hills (in Calgary). I (the provider) have 15+ years of experience with children and have ran my day home successfully for over 8 years. Three of those years through an agency.
With a large main floor playroom, craft area, spacious yard, and 3 playgrounds only a few blocks away, this is a dayhome made for kids who want to have fun!
We spend our days playing, singing, laughing, and learning. Along with story time and music time, I arrange plenty of arts and crafts projects as well; There is always a something special for the children to do for each holiday.

As the dayhome provider I want to help assist the parents in the development of their children. Thus, teaching the kids their letters (alphabet), numbers, rhymes, and games. Communication is very important as well, and through planned activities, such as puppetshows or dramatic play, the children will learn how to use their language (words and sounds) to better communicate thoughts and feeling to others.

All meals given to the children have been guided by the Canada Food Guide. I rarely give any of the kids, including my own, fast food or foods high in sugar. Milk or water is given with all meals and snacks.
A copy of the lunch and snack rotation is located in the 'just for fun' section!

Open Monday through Friday 6:00am until 5:00pm. Hours can be negotiated if needed.
This dayhome is closed on all statutory holidays and 2 weeks during the summer.
Yearly calendars are provided to parents.

A little bit about me!
My name is Melissa. I am a loving, caring, mommy of two beautiful little girls and a pretty cute guy. I believe children should be cared for in a fun, supportive environment; such as the one I am fortunate to be able to provide. I have had my day home for over 8 years now but I have years of experience caring for children of all ages, as well as children with disabilities. Before deciding to open my own dayhome I casually helped out with a day home ran by my aunt. I also work part time at a local hospital doing medical reception.
I have current police and child intervention checks, first aid, CPR, and I have a level 1 Early Childcare diploma. I have attended numerous workshops put on by my previous day home agency which I obtained certificates for.

I have 2 indoor cats in my home, one cat, Roxy, is absolutely wonderful with the kids and sometimes even plays along with them in the playroom! The other cat, Natayo, is a scaredy cat who rarely comes out. Both kitties are spayed and vaccinated.
