Reggio Emilia is a small city in Italy that has earned great worldwide respect and admiration for its holistic approach to Early Childhood Education.

The Reggio Emilia approach embraces the idea that it takes a village to raise a child. As an immigrant, mother, business owner and student I know the importance of having that 'village'. I have made it my business to become a big part of that village for my families by providing a welcoming, dependable, loving and supportive atmosphere.

In this next evolution as a Reggio-inspired preschool I will be incorporating more Reggio ideas into my program: an emergent curriculum based on observation and documentation of children's interests, making their learning visible, using natural materials for play and giving many opportunities for children to paint, sculpt, draw, write, sketch and create.

Sustainability and care for the environment is an important teaching cultivated through gardening, harvesting and eating our grapes, strawberries and tomatoes as well as composting, repurposing materials and recycling.

I provide two healthy snacks consisting of a dairy, grain, and two offerings of fruit and veggies (our apples and berries are always organic and use real cheese)

We are also involved in the wider community, we go to our local library weekly in the summer, go for walks in the neighbourhood, we go on fieldtrips (Fort Whyte, Oak Hammock Marsh, Museums etc.) and are planning to resume attending play group at our local school in September.

Lastly we are a very multicultural family with backgrounds from El Salvador, Poland and Pakistan. We embrace Canadian diversity by celebrating all holidays and traditions with songs, food, music and gatherings.
