I can only begin to tell you here how much I love my job!
I'm passionate about providing children with a loving and stimulating environment in which to play and learn.
OCT certified, I have 13 years elementary teaching and curriculum writing experience, plus 9 years home daycare experience.
In just about all kinds of weather, we spend at least a few hours outside every day. My home is ideally suited for lots of outdoor play with a large, shady fenced backyard. I live at the end of a small, quiet court where the children can safely play with bikes, trikes, trucks, Flintstone cars and chalk. I live within close walking distance to 3 parks, so our outdoor play also includes park play. I even have a small toboggan hill in my yard which is tons of fun for the under 5 crowd.
My indoor program includes centres, circle time, calendar, morning message, baking, crafts, free play, structured play, guided play, and themes throughout the year. The children spend their indoor time in large, bright and sunny MAIN-FLOOR rooms of my home.
I am very intentional about how I plan my day's activities. Children feel confident and comfortable when their routines are predictable. All this said and despite my schedules, spontaneous activities are often the most memorable experiences for the children, so sometimes we find ourselves enjoying impromptu dance parties, hide-and-seek, and more!
We begin each day with centres that always include a colouring table, painting easel, building, and make-believe play. We move to circle time where they learn songs, rhythms, and finger plays, along with some jumping, dancing, and big action songs.
After they've gotten their sillies out, they're ready for some calendar time, morning message, printing practice, and/or craft. At this time the children learn their days of the week, how to print numbers and letters, and we celebrate themes. Although this might seem like a program that only the older children enjoy, I can assure you that the little ones love to participate and observe during circle time. Infants as young as 14 months feel so big if they also get to join the older ones in crossing off the calendar day or finding a word on the morning message by making a little scribble! These are all fantastic pre-reading activities, and all of the full-time children I care for are preparing to read before going to JK.
Our activities for the rest of the day include free play and guided play, both outside and inside. We learn how to pedal on the bikes, trikes and trucks, infants climb and pedal on age-appropriate toys, and we have lots of good old-fashioned kid fun in all seasons in the backyard, on our court, and in the parks.
Depending on the ages of your children, our afternoons also include reading, puzzles, team puzzles, board games, nap or quiet time, and more outdoor play.
During all of our play, I am intentional about their social interactions and I guide them to play respectfully, yet assertively with eachother.
I like to go on some field trips to places like Downey's, Chudleigh's, Springridge, and the Brampton Fair. With permission from the parents, I've registered the older children in swimming lessons in the summer, and in the winter we've enrolled in preschool gymnastics at the City of Brampton and AllStar Sports Centre. I've also entered their crafts in the Brampton Fair.
I have a little 15 lb dog - a hypoallergenic Bijon-poodle mix. She fits in perfectly with the daycare, and joins the children in all of their activities. The parents actually love the fact that I have a dog: their children get to play with a dog, feed a dog, brush a dog, walk a dog, boss a dog around ...and do all those things that families with dogs get to do, without the hassle of actually owning a dog.
I should also tell you that I'm a Christian, and we do a daily circle time prayer, we pray before we eat lunch, and at Christmas we celebrate the birth of Jesus. That said, we still have lots of fun with Santa Claus, the Easter bunny, and Halloween! And my program is mostly secular and not based around religious themes or Bible stories. Children from all faith groups are welcome in my home, and all religious celebrations will be respected.
Regardless of your child's age, you can be assured that your child is having a fantastic time in a loving and stimulating environment.
Rates are negotiable, depending on your child's age and the times you need.
