I have been working with children my entire life, starting with babysitting as a teenager, then working as a camp counselor, later as a live-in nanny for 3 in Victoria BC and next in a structured daycare in Calgary with the babies and toddlers. Once I had my daughter I decided to start my own home daycare and have been doing so ever since.
I am a creative, crafty person who loves playing and working with children. I have lost count of the number of children to whom I have taught their letters, numbers, colours and shapes as well as how to write their name. I make a big deal out of every holiday and event such as birthdays. At the end of every day I send photos to all of the parents via my iPhone in order to show parents what fun things their children are doing, while in my care.
I have many educational and fun toys, all in great shape and regularly cleaned. I am also constantly adding new toys. I also have tents, tunnels, tool benches, play kitchens etc to make their day fun and enjoyable. I exchange the toys frequently throughout each day, so that the children continue to be stimulated and entertained.
The children each have comfortable, quiet and clean places to sleep. I do accommodate for a young child who still needs two naps per day.
I am an outdoor enthusiast and therefore try to spend as much time outdoors as possible. My yard is large and fenced-in, with a lot of fun toys to keep them busy.
I write a Daily Journal which lets the parents know what their child did, when they slept, what they ate etc. Each day I have Circle Time where we discuss our weekly theme. I adjust the books and crafts to make them age appropriate and educational for all of the children, regardless of their age. I love to incorporate S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) into my programming by frequently doing fun, educational and age appropriate experiments and activities.
Every Friday we add Show and Tell (a favourite of the children) to our Circle Time.
I still keep in touch with past families and their children since, for a time period, they became a part of my family.
