A safety issue all customers should be aware of is the location of the DayCare facility as well as the adjacent Food Bank. These operations are located on the former 1916 Imperial Oil refinery site, which has not been properly Phase II ground tested or remediated. Other engineering firm tests in the area, done in 1980 found the ground was saturated with carcinogenetic hydrocarbons, lead, and indications of PCB's. These are very bad for anyone, and even more damaging to the longterm health of young children. Testing, at least, should be done immediately, which is the responsibility of the City of Regina, who purchased the property from Imperial Oil. Testing is long over due, only because the City is afraid of the contamination extent that will become pubically known, affecting their liability. Otherwise everyone entering this area is effectively risking their health and safety. The Daycare should make this a major concern before the Food Bank and City of Regina.
